What If Your Sunscreen Contain Benzene?

Many of us do not even think twice about using sunscreen. After all, sunscreen protects our skin and our health. But what if your sunscreen contains benzene? It may be worth filing a lawsuit against the sunscreen manufacturer for exposing you to this carcinogen. You may be entitled to compensation if you suffer from an invasive cancer caused by benzene. In addition to your health, you may also be entitled to financial compensation if your condition worsens.

While benzene is not an actual ingredient, it can sometimes be found in sunscreen products, due to contamination during manufacturing or from the breakdown of other ingredients. For example, benzene is also found in sunscreens that contain oxybenzone, avobenzone, and homosalate, but they are not the same thing. Fortunately, you can prevent this from happening by doing some research on different brands of Sunscreen contains benzene.

The dangers of benzene may be more severe than you may realize. Although there are no known health risks from short-term exposure to benzene, long-term use can cause a host of diseases, including blood cancer. It is important to note that the vast majority of sunscreens contain no benzene, but a few products may have trace amounts of the chemical. Luckily, most popular brands like Neutrogena and Sun Bum are free of benzene.

Valisure is requesting a recall for affected batches and is asking the FDA to establish guidelines to determine the safest level of benzene in skin care products. The company also found contamination in hand sanitizers. They are looking to gather more samples from the chemistry community. There is no definitive proof of a cause-and-effect relationship, but they are seeking public input. They are urging the FDA to investigate the source of the contamination.

In response to the recent reports on benzene in sunscreens, Johnson & Johnson and other companies have voluntarily recalled several products. The company said it is still evaluating how the chemical got into the product, but it is still worth ensuring that you do not have any of these products in your home. This way, you can avoid exposure to this dangerous chemical. Even though the FDA has issued a warning and is currently reviewing Valisure's petition, many other brands still contain the chemical.

Despite the warnings, doctors and consumers should be cautious about applying a sunscreen with benzene. Research has shown that there is no safe level of benzene in sunscreen. The risk of benzene exposure is extremely low, but once it's in your bloodstream, it can lead to serious health problems. In addition, benzene is a known carcinogen, with an increased risk of skin cancer in individuals who have been exposed to it.

According to Valisure, a company that tests medications for safety, benzene is found in 43 out of 224 sun care products. They found that 14 of those samples had concentrations of benzene above the FDA limit. These products included both chemical and mineral formulations. The highest-level sunscreen products tested were Neutrogena, Sun Bum, CVS Health, Fruit of the Earth, and others.
